The final section of the module takes place on the Audience Court, a castle-like stronghold made up of a second level of dungeon beneath rooms in the second level of the mountain. This level is considered the dudgeon portion of the dungeon, and it is the location of the final battle, which usually consists of the same monsters found on the Main Level as well as the treasure room area.
Unless the DM takes special precautions, the players will usually find themselves in a position where they have a choice of fighting the six reptilian daemons stationed near the chamber's entrance or retreating to the main chamber to fight the slavers' war party. Note that the only way to escape the room is through another door on the opposite side, which means that the players must fight all four of the daemons to make any progress. Those who run may find themselves trapped or attacked by those first arriving to fight.
While the part of the module known as The Döttling Portal is not considered a part of the dungeon crawl portion of the adventure, the Descent Into the Darkshelf section is used in full in this adventure.[8]
If the players choose to fight, they must then deal with the expedition across the Döttling Portal, which requires the combined role playing efforts of the players and the DM. The encounter begins at a point where the Main Chamber intersects a path leading to the next chamber. Since the room is populated with slavers, the DM should assume that the area between the portals will be heavily guarded by soldiers beyond the second portal. If the players wish to make more progress toward the treasure room, they first must devise a plan to break the portal's forcefield and enter (and, at least for the first phase, escape from) the middle chamber. d2c66b5586
