The music and sound effects for the Dark Knight are made from the mix and encode musical and naturalistic synthesized sounds in a much easier and cheaper manner for the production of the movie. The music is composed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. The scene with the SWAT team is set to "Rooftop Run", a live cover version of "Crazy Train", a song by American heavy metal band Ozzy Osbourne. The same song is used in The Prowler. The song "Welcome to the Jungle" was used to play a custom made radio set that is on Bruce Wayne's desk. The alarm clock was used to create the sound of alarms set to real police siren sounds. The most noticeable sound created for the movie is the building collapse that supposedly caused a delay in an assassination attempt. It was created using an industrial organ and a train horn lamenting over a small engine, which was placed over a cello and played in multiple layers.[4] It was performed by members of the Hollywood Studio Symphony. He also assisted in the preproduction of the movie. Gary Oldman and Valerie Vale read through the script and made notes. Oldman suggested that Vale should be kept away from 'extreme dangers', and Ricardo Medina Jr. was cast over other suitable actors that the producers originally considered. Oldman also suggested to use sound effects such as the fire engine and blackout sounds in order to work in difficult situations.[6] Oldman had a similar experience with Die Hard (1988) and described Halford's character as sounding gruesome. He also spent a part of the training on the weapons used by Bane and the studio created the riot props.[7] The Dark Knight entered production in May 2006, after The Lord of the Rings (2001) was delayed and was ultimately cancelled.[8] While pre-production had stabilized, pre-production had also started on The Dark Knight and Superman Returns.
