The first ten days of business saw Magadheera grossing more than Rs. 1 billion. The second week prevented Magadheera from slipping beneath the Rs. 100 million mark. Overall, the film grossed over Rs. 160 million in its first week and more than Rs. 20 million in its second week. By the end of its fifth week, it was the highest grossing Telugu film of 2009.[41][58][62] Magadheera's success marked the start of a trend of fantasy films starring heroes of the Kollywood and Tollywood industry. Nandi and Kajal Roshan, the wife and son of Mahesh Babu, starred as the heroines in Bhaagam Kumbaaram (2010).[63] People also saw a relation with Magadheera and a follow-up titled Magadheera Returns in 2010.[64][65] A sequel titled Magadheera 2 was announced by Rajamouli in early 2009.[66] After a long time, actor Krishna, whose last works were in the 1994 film Sindooram, made his comeback in Magadheera, along with his son Krishna (Deva Katta) in the lead roles.[67] Santhosh Girija, a fourth generation Krishna Koil producer, stated that neither of them were authorized to speak to the media on the production of Magadheera 2 but mentioned he had already read the script.[43]
Before the release of Magadheera, scriptwriter A. L. Narayana, son and son-in-law of prospective producers and directors S. S. Rajamouli and B. V. S. N. Prasad respectively, confided in a Times of India correspondent that he would score a success if he wrote the story with Rajamouli's permission. The article stated that Rajamouli was willing to drop the idea of a sequel of Magadheera.[41][71] It also stated that given the success of Magadheera, it would be difficult for him to make any forthcoming film without a similar theme.[41] A source close to the production team said B. V. S. N. Prasad was keen to avoid making a direct sequel to Magadheera.[8]
Magadheera was shot in Hyderabad (where the film was partially set), Chennai, Mysore and the villages of Kundanahalli and Shivanasamudra in Chittoor District, in the forests of Madanagiri and with the help of the National Geographic Society. 7211a4ac4a
