I am presently writing my first book on American visual culture. The book, tentatively titled “The White Art of Race: Visual Culture, Whiteness, and the Fictions of American Ethnicity,” focuses on the processes of racial interpretation of European artists, who produced an art of whiteness which replicated a set of scientific, political, and ethical values of white supremacy. These artists were largely unknown and unappreciated by the academy and the public. I hope to transform their unacknowledged works into a part of the arts canon.

At a time when artistic appropriation is so common and so public, I hope that this book will provide a knowledge and appreciation of these unacknowledged masters. In this way, they can be seen as a part of a larger history of visual culture. 827ec27edc
